Crayons were just the beginning…..
It all began with crayons. My passion for art began when I received my first set of crayons, and it was true love. Soon my bedroom became littered with sketchbooks and paintings. I couldn’t get enough and loved experimenting with different mediums..even the makeup I was supposed to be using for dress up became artistic tools.
As a teenager, I took up an interest in photography and ended up teaching myself how to develop my own film and prints. In a small step aside from painting and sketching, I decided to pursue photography in college, and graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Technical Photography. I photographed anything and everything: portraits, weddings, nature, you name it. I even dabbled in some alternative processes such as cyanotype.
Since then, I’ve combined my experience with both art and photography to form Becca Childress Creative. The skills that I have acquired over the years allow me to offer a wide range of services and products to people. I’m always expanding my creative proficiency and enjoy the challenges that come with learning a new medium. Watercolor is my specialty, but I don’t like picking favorites. When I’m not painting, you might find me carving block prints, creating collages, or even sculpting (I’ll fire up that kiln I bought last year, eventually).
My home studio is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, on 13 acres of old farmland. I reside there with my husband, children, and a handful of crazy animals. Everything starts here, and I feel so grateful to be surrounded by so much natural beauty since it’s my biggest inspiration!
I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it, and thanks for looking! I accept commission request on a rolling basis, so if you have something in mind that you would like to have me create, feel free to reach out to me!
